Excursion to Kenya

“I had a farm in Africa.”

So begins Isak Dinesen’s “Out of Africa”.  But no one said it better than Meryl Streep in the movie!  Robert Redford as Denys Finch-Hatton and Streep as Baroness von Blixen-Finecke brought Kenya in the 1920′s to the big screen.   John Barry’s unforgettable music score of soaring strings literally takes you up in a plane as you soar over the African landscape.   (Click here to hear it!)   If you haven’t read the book or seen the movie, whyever not???

You know what you have to do.  But before you click on Netflix, set the mood.

You’ll have to drive to Ann’s and pick up a bottle or two of Lampe Berger’s new Excursion to Kenya.   Pour some into your Lampe Berger, light the wick, and blow out the flame.  Now your journey can begin.  (i.e., Now you’re ready for movie night.)

Excursion to Kenya is a combination of rare spices, wild flowers and rich precious woods reminicent of colonial Africa in the days of big game hunters.   You can actually smell the coffee on the plantation and the jasmine blooming in the highlands of the Ngong Hills.  It’s a wonderful journey, and you can make it comfortably in your favorite chair, right there at home in front of your plasma TV.

So what are you waiting for?  Africa calls!   Your Excursion to Kenya begins as soon as you visit Ann’s and pick up a bottle.  $19.95.

Read it.  Watch it.  Burn it.  And you too will say,

“Here I am, where I ought to be.”   (Isak Dinesen, Out of Africa

Fresh and fragrant

When temperature and humidity go up, it’s nice to freshen the air of your home with Ann’s Lampe Berger fragrances.  Lampe Berger actually removes odors from the air in your home and leaves it smelling of the fragrance you like best.  Keep one at the lake house to freshen it after being shut up between visits.  Burn it after cooking to remove cooking odors.  For more details and a fragrance list, click here.  When you visit Ann’s, you can try our samplers to “test” the fragrance before you buy it.  We have a large supply of every fragrance available, and have stock in many discontinued fragrances.

Some of Ann’s favorite fragrances include Fresh Eucalyptus.  Clean and light, it also soothes when you have sinus congestion.

What’s your favorite?

Do you have a Lampe Berger?

Lampe Berger is one of those marvelous inventions that once you have one, you don’t know how you existed without one.  Really.

Lampe Berger is a fragrance lamp, not for illuminating a room, but for removing odor.  It burns an alcohol-based fuel that comes in many fragrances (more about those in the next post) and makes your house smell good.  Unlike candles, Lampe Berger actually removes the odors, such as the smell of the wet dog or cooking odors.   It was invented in late 1800′s for use in French hospitals (imagine the potential for odor there) and is a patented item.    It is functional as well as decorative, making it one of Ann’s all-time best gifts.

It comes in many styles, so you’ll find at least one to fit your decor.  We’ve posted a few pictures here, but you can cruise our site at www.annsfinegifts.com to see more.  They start at  $29.50.   You are welcome to visit Ann’s for a demonstration and a lesson.  It’s not hard to operate, and you’ll love what it does for your home.

We hear all kinds of Lampe Berger stories about how some really bad smell was erradicated with Lampe Berger.  (My favorite is a the one where the skunk lodged under the lakehouse and using the Lampe Berger saved the family’s vacation!)   But most of our customers simply enjoy the daily indulgence of having their home smell nice.

Please visit Ann’s for a demonstration, and sample all the fragrances that Lampe Berger offers.  If you already have one, give one as a gift!  See you soon at Ann’s.
