The new road construction along Memorial Drive between Kirkwood and Memorial installed a high median in the road that has few “breaks” where traffic can turn. This is a detriment to local taxpaying businesses and residents who travel this stretch of road. We join those who support its removal.

Why say NO to high medians?
The median greatly inconveniences drivers who wish to turn into their neighborhoods or to local business driveways.
It forces drivers to drive out of their way and to make a U-turn, which slows traffic in the lane behind them as other cars stack up while they wait to make the turn.
The median is are unusually high, and frustrated people attempting to cross it sustain damage to their vehicles.
The road construction, then the Harvey, Addicks and Barker Reservoirs flooding has hurt local businesses. The median remains an impediment to recovery. What will happen to the local tax base should business be negatively affected because customers can’t easily turn in to patronize them?
This is not a new objection. Many people spoke up at a meeting in October, 2013, before construction began, yet plans continued unchanged regarding the median. Click here to read the article.
