Green Apple Lampe Berger

Ever wonder why the green apple is called “Granny Smith?”  It’s named after the one who first grew it.  Maria Ann Smith (1799-1870) tended her orchards near Sydney, Australia and was mother to numerous children.  Her apples are a hybrid with bright color and sweet fruit and are often the apple of choice for that American classic, apple pie.
