Give Bluebonnets

Texans love this time of year…the bluebonnets are blooming!  We love to visit them, paint them, take the kids’ pictures in them, and enjoy the beautiful weather.

But you can’t pick ‘em!  So when you need to give a Texas gift, why not give one of Ann’s Texas crystal wineglasses with bluebonnets etched on them?

Git along little dogies!

Out here in big Texas a “dogie” is a calf.  “Git along” is cowboy talk for when yer out ridin’ the trail.

“Git along little dogies” is also the name of a Roy Roger’s tune:

Why this talk about dogies and ridin’ the trail?  Well mister, we city-slickers here at Ann’s just sent the cowhide bench and footstools with the horn legs off to a happy forever home on a ranch in the country.   Yessir!  Whoopi ki yi yo…er, watch the video, OK?

Texas Artwork

Classic images of Texas country life are the hallmark of photographer Laura Scarlato’s work.  Vivid colors and large canvases capture the feeling of a time gone by.  Equally adept in rendering vintage Chevy images as still life and Longhorns in a natural setting, Ms. Scarlato is local and we have three gallery wrap murals of her work:

Note:  These are large canvases.  Click on the image in your browser to see each in greater detail.

Iconic Texas Gifts

Everyone knows we Texans ride horses to work, have oil wells in our backyards, and all our cows have horns, really long horns.  Right?  Perpetuate the myth when you give iconic Texas gifts from Ann’s, such as these hand engraved crystal glasses and bowls.   Images are subtle enough not to holler, but they’re there, a reminder that Texas is a great state as well as a state of mind.  And look out…here comes the longhorn stampede!

Texas Eats by Robb Walsh, $25

Texas Eats by Robb Walsh, $25

Texas Eats, The New Lonestar Heritage Cookbook is the latest book by local Houston author, Robb Walsh.  Mr. Walsh has authored 5 previous Texas cookbooks and is a three time winner of the George Beard Award.  He traveled Texas extensively looking for the best local food and recipes, current and almost forgotten.  Texas Eats is full of vintage photos, stories about food, beautiful photography and history in addition to delicious recipes.  Even if you never cook any of the food, the book is a great read and source of Texas lore.

Who would love this book?  The person you know who has everything, is hard to buy a gift for, or doesn’t really want much “stuff.”  It would also make a wonderful corporate gift for visiting executives or clients, a thoughtful piece of Texas they can take home with them.

It’s in stock now at Ann’s, and gift wrap is free!  Come pick up a copy won’t you?
